Translating a resume for an international job search

With global recession continuing to hit hard, a growing number of people is looking to international relocation as a possible solution. When searching for work abroad, a well-crafted, culturally-appropriate CV or resume should be the first order of business. (In this post, I will use the term resume, but the same principles apply to a CV as well).

Responsible Translating

Recent reports of organ trafficking in the US and  in Israel reminded me of a translation project I was offered several years ago. The assignment consisted of a website for a German company extolling the virtues of Chinese transplant medicine. The whole story seemed fishy, and after some brief research I figured out why. By peddling its medical tourism services, the company presented its potential clients with a tough moral dilemma: saving their lives at the expense of the lives of  Chinese political prisoners.
